The Rajasthan Royals (RR) continue to look like the team to beat in IPL 2026, delivering a tactical masterclass to dismantle the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on their own turf. In a contest defined by sharp bowling and gritty middle-order batting, the Royals defended 159 with relative ease, leaving LSG searching for answers after their fourth straight loss of the tournament.

Jadeja Leads the Counter-Attack

The match began with early fireworks from Lucknow’s bowling unit. Mohammed Shami looked unstoppable in his opening spell, removing Rajasthan’s explosive openers and leaving the visitors reeling at 32/3. However, the Royals’ depth proved to be the difference-maker.

Ravindra Jadeja stepped into the spotlight, playing a calculated and composed innings that shifted the momentum. Avoiding risky shots on a challenging Ekana pitch, Jadeja focused on strike rotation and surgical boundaries, finishing with an unbeaten 43 off 29 balls. Supported by late-innings cameos from Shimron Hetmyer and Shubham Dubey, Rajasthan managed to claw their way to a competitive total of 159/6—a score that proved to be more than enough.

LSG’s Top-Order Meltdown

Chasing 160, the Super Giants’ innings never truly got off the ground. A disastrous mix-up in the first over resulted in the run-out of Ayush Badoni, setting a somber tone for the rest of the chase. The Rajasthan pace duo of Nandre Burger and Jofra Archer then took over, ruthlessly exploiting the conditions to dismiss Rishabh Pant and Aiden Markram for ducks.

With the top order back in the dugout and the score at a dismal 11/3, Mitchell Marsh attempted a solo rescue mission. Marsh’s valiant 55 was the only bright spot in an otherwise lackluster batting performance. Once Jadeja removed Nicholas Pooran, the remaining resistance crumbled under the pressure of a rising required run rate.

The Archer Effect

Jofra Archer looked every bit the world-class spearhead Rajasthan needs, consistently clocking high speeds and hitting uncomfortable lengths. He decimated the lower order to finish with figures of 3/20, ensuring the match didn’t even go the full distance. Lucknow was eventually bundled out for 119 in the 18th over.

Accompanying Archer’s fire was the discipline of Brijesh Sharma and Nandre Burger, who combined for four wickets to keep the pressure relentless from both ends.

Standings and Momentum

With this victory, the Rajasthan Royals leapfrog into the second position on the points table, firmly establishing themselves as playoff favorites. For the Lucknow Super Giants, the situation is becoming critical. The lack of runs from the top order is a glaring issue that captain Rishabh Pant will need to address immediately to prevent their season from slipping away entirely.
